Ants In Winter

ANTS IN THE WINTER
NEWTOWN PA

If you are dealing with ants in your Newtown home or office, especially in the winter, you might be feeling hopeless. Perhaps you thought that ants were only active in the summer, so why are you having year-round pest issues?

Above all, don't feel hopeless. As any experienced exterminator can tell you, pest control is a 24/7 effort. The good news is that once you have an experienced pest management professional protecting your home or business, you are extremely unlikely to see ants indoors in the winter or the summer.

DO ANTS LIVE IN THE WINTER?

Ants are one of the most common pests that invade homes during winter. They live in colder climates and survive by nesting in warm, dry places near heat sources.

WHY AM I GETTING ANTS IN THE WINTER?

When ants can't find any food outside, they'll look for snacks inside your home instead.

Ants will eat pretty much anything. But in the winter, ants will only eat sugary or fatty foods, like syrup and honey or oil. Ants are attracted to sweet smells just as humans are, which is why they often go for a sugary drink or two when it's cold outside. They also love greasy food, like bacon grease.

KEEP ANTS OUT OF YOUR HOME DURING WINTER

Ants are one of the most common pests that invade Newtown area homes and businesses homes during winter. The best way to keep ants out is by sealing all potential entry points. This includes cracks around windows and doors, foundation cracks, and gaps in plumbing pipes. If you find ants inside your home, clean up any crumbs or other food on counters and floors to remove their food source. Clear hidden spaces like under the fridge or behind cabinets and drawers. And finally, seal off any possible entry points outside your home such as cracks in sidewalks or porches with caulk or widening foundation gaps with concrete filler paste. You can also use diatomaceous earth near entrances to deter these pesky critters from entering your home.

HOW TO GET RID OF WINTER ANTS

If you find ants inside your home, clean up any crumbs or other food on counters and floors to remove their food source. Clear hidden spaces like under the fridge or behind cabinets and drawers.

However, ants can be very determined. If they have found a favorable place to live that also provides them with a steady supply of food, they will never leave on their own.

It is possible for over-the-counter insect sprays to kill individual ants, but these products usually do not get carried back to the nest where they can reach the queen and her larvae. Accordingly, the problem goes on and the queen continues her reproductive process, which probably means that the ant population grows rather than shrinking.

This means that waiting for ants to go away on their own or to succumb to bug sprays are not good strategies.

HOW WE TREAT FOR ANTS

Ants are the number one pest control issue and can prove virtually impossible for home and business owners to solve on their own.  Ending an ant infestation typically requires proper ant identification, locating and destroying the nest or colony, as well as the use and application of specialized products.

As such, it is not advisable for property owners to attempt to eradicate an ant infestation without assistance from a professional pest control provider.
